Founded in 2014, the company is headquartered in Dublin, and specialises in delivering digital content assets used for informational, educational or marketing purposes.
SciencePOD’s mission is to increase wider society’s scientific literacy and make the latest knowledge discoveries and specialist information available to wider audiences by translating complex ideas into clear, concise and compelling content.
We operate a SaaS platform to access two types of solutions. The first solution, is a newsfeed ScioWire, powered by our AI summarisation engine. The second is made of professionally-crafted premium content packages, specifically suited for omnichannel distribution, delivered by our global pre-vetted community of expert content creators.
We are about to launch in autumn 2022 , our unique newsfeed solution, called ScioWire (https://sciencepod.net/ai-summarisation/) designed to help professionals in fields related to innovation to keep up to date with the latest knowledge. This supports them in their own work, in delivering messages to their target audiences, based on solid scientific evidence. This means that our solution indirectly contributes to spreading fact-based information in an attempt to counter misinformation.
We have developed an AI Summarisation engine, which is based on Natural Language Processing (namely, extractive summarisation) in collaboration with Avignon University, specifically designed to summarise the latest research studies within seconds.
Our new AI solution, generating summaries of the latest research progress automatically, complement our other more traditional content creation solutions, based on the delivery of professionally crafted science explainer content, involving a global community of content creators with subject matter expertise covering the entire spectrum of research and innovation. Our community includes science and medical writers, editors and multimedia producers, and is hosted on the SciencePOD platform, which is designed to fast-track the content delivery process, via workflow automation.
SciencePOD offers a full catalog of AI-generated and professionally crafted content creation and content marketing services including science journalism, science and medical writing, editing, design and multimedia production for academic publishers, industries and organisations with an R&D focus, such as biopharma and ICT corporates, academia, NGOs, as well as media organisations, marketing agencies and others working in fields related to science, medicine and technology as well as the wider knowledge sectors including law and business.
Reason for Nomination:
Today, most companies are undergoing their digital transformation. To effectively communicate with their research collaborators, their business partners and their customers, they require much larger amount of digital content than ever before. Thus, there are unprecedented levels of growth in the content sector, which is estimated to grow at 15% p.a. (PQ Media). This trend has been accelerated by the pandemic as professional events are held remotely or in hybrid fashion.
Innovative organisations invest significant resources in creating content to amplify the impact of their latest discoveries among research and business partners. Their challenge: they need premium, evidence-based content that is scientifically accurate and yet compelling to help them engage with target professional audiences. Demand for such expert content is booming as the misinformation pandemic threatens these innovative organisations. However it is challenging to identify content creators with the right expertise and the right communication skills.
In parallel, audiences of professionals working in the research and innovation ecosystem (scientists, medics, lawyers, funders and investors, etc.) do not have the time nor the bandwidth to keep abreast of the latest innovation. They do not have the tools to quickly capture the implications of the latest research and development from innovative organisations because the results are buried in numerous, lengthy and highly technical papers.

We are addressing the competition from pre-existing established content businesses by rolling out our unique AI summarisation solution, which is combined with our unrivaled global expert content creators’ community and our proprietary SaaS platform, which automates the content creation. Our firm is therefore on the path to firmly establishing itself globally as a purveyor of quality expert content, and to develop new paid distribution solutions, as part of our new data and analytics business, to offer an end-to-end content creation and distribution solution.
The company already operates globally and sells primarily to science publishers and R&D-intensive corporates such as pharma companies, as well as academia, NGOs. Our AI-based new solutions will help us remain competitive and expand our market into new verticals, including the global scientific market, as well as other R&D-intensive industries including ICT, cleantech, air and space, chemicals, etc.
SciencePOD aims to become the central hub for the creation of specialist explainer content designed to help clients effectively communicate with and influence their target audiences.
Until now, we have delivered premium professionally-crafted content, a B2B business. However, we now want to expand the business thanks to our AI solutions to meet the growing content needs of B2B and B2C professionals seeking specialist explainer content. The main challenges we have encountered was to find a suitably qualified NLP partner (our lead scientist at Avignon is a world expert in NLP Summarisation technology) and to co-develop a solution that delivers high-quality summaries of technical documents.
Besides, it has taken us two years of negotiation to secure our global commercialisation agreement, with Avignon. We have also overcome many hurdles in gaining acceptance of our solution, by persevering in convincing the key players in the science publishing industry of the added value of our solution, Already the likes of Springer Nature, Agence France Press and PA media as well the pharma companies, like Sanofi, have expressed a strong interest in beta testing our new AI solution, The productivity gain our AI solution can bring to their operation is substantial.
Our objective is to reach wider audiences at scale and at reduced costs across a very broad range of thematic areas to ensure we become discoverable across the knowledge economy. Ultimately this will help us grow the business on a much broader scale.
