Sensibin Limited (trading as Sensi) was founded in 2019 to tackle some of the many challenges of Recycling and Recycling Education. Specifically, the founders of Sensi believed in the potential of Visual AI technology (and object recognition) to help solve problems with Recycling contamination.

Recycling contamination significantly reduces the value of recyclable material, and also increases the cost of processing it. Contamination results from inappropriate mixing of materials and is due to lack of education and lack of incentive to do the right thing when recycling.

Sensi sees the potential of using its technology to reward and incentivise good recycling behaviours, whilst at the same time ensuring the collection of high quality recyclables. Sensi’s goal is to change public attitudes towards recycling and use its products and solutions to promote the circular economy.

Reason for Nomination:

Sensibin now manufacturers and sells the world’s first Smart RVM (Reverse Vending Machine) using Visual AI. Through the use of visual recognition, the Smart RVM can accept Plastic PET Bottles & Aluminium Cans in return for a voucher/reward. In contrast to the competition, the Smart RVM can also accept items WITHOUT a barcode, such as, a reusable coffee cup or reusable food container, with a huge potential to reduce plastic waste and improve recycling quality.

The company is revenue generating and has machines in operation with premium retailer ’Fresh – The Good Food Market”. Sensi’s technologies have the potential to be integrated in a suite of products that can implement the functions of Reverse Vending Machines at reduced cost, whist educating and rewarding users of these products.
