Reason for Nomination:
Volograms just launched Volu, the first mobile app that enables smartphone users to do volumetric capture, a technology that until now was only available to professionals, as it required green-screen studios with dozens of cameras, servers and professional lighting. Volu is able to replace all these by using artificial intelligence: we have integrated multiple deep learning algorithms for human segmentation, 3D volume estimation, and 3D skeleton detection, which have been trained with our own 3D models database.
Beyond the technology breakthrough, Volu is an immersive communication and content creation platform that empowers users to easily create, share and play with volumetric content from one quick mobile video. Soon, Volu will also offer export and integration capabilities to feed with real word captures a wide range of Augmented Reality platforms, from social media lenses to Unity/Unreal/WebXR apps. In that way, Volu will help solve one of the most important challenges of AR, content creation, by unlocking user-generated content for this incredible medium!

Volograms is a spin-off from Trinity College Dublin, and we have strong roots in research. Within our team, we have published more than 90 scientific papers with more than 1200 citations, and we continue pushing the technology to bring it to the next level. Volu is the realisation of our mission of making volumetric capture simpler for everyone, but we have had other innovations since we were founded in 2018:
